Tales of Suspense v1 #15, 1961 - Seeking life on other planets, a scientist accidentally lures a giant, monstrous alien to Earth. Longer than other similarly-themed tales in the series, Jack Kirby gets the room to vary panel sizes. This is turn allows a greater sense of scale. Kirby's two splash pages are skillfully drawn, but as the story progresses, panels become increasingly crowded. Dick Ayers competently inks both the cover and Kirby's story pencils (this story was later reprinted in Giant-size Man-Thing #1). In Steve Ditko's tale, a skeptic enters an ancient castle rumored to be occupied by ghosts. The artwork is meticulously detailed, adding a textural quality to most of the panels. Ditko's opening splash is deceptively simple but graphically memorable. Other artists in this issue include Don Heck. This is 14 of 92 Tales of Suspense issues by Kirby and 15 of 47 Tales of Suspense issues by Ditko.
