Alex Toth
Jet Fighters v1 #5, 1952 - During the Korean War, a hotshot jet fighter learns a valuable lesson in teamwork from his brother, a lowly helicopter pilot. Alex Toth's opening page is mild yet expansive, contrasting against the smaller claustrophobic panels that follow. Each is composed with a minimum of elements that clearly supports the storytelling. Character gestures and facial expressions are amplified in the scenes of confrontations between brothers (see interior page below). Toth's best contribution is his superb cover, depicting a jet's ascent after bombing. The pilot's inset face may be unnecessary, but doesn't detract from the whole. Other artists in this comic include Ross Andru, Mike Esposito, Frank Giusto and John Celardo. This is 1 of 2 Jet Fighters issues by Toth.
