Jungle Action v2 #23 / Black Panther - John Byrne cover

John Byrne

Jungle Action v2 #3 featuring the Black Panther, 1973 - The Black Panther, his back against the wall, is poised to strike against an unseen enemy. This centered figure placement is commonly used, though few artists can make it distinctive. John Byrne uses the perspective of a brick pattern to draw focus to the hero, while the circular spotlight creates a cohesive frame. Sadly, Byrne's style is indistinguishable from many other Marvel covers of the same era. Other artists in this issue include Gene Colan and Syd Shores. This is number 1 of 1 Jungle Action issues with Byrne art and/or covers. See today's posts or more Byrne or Jungle Action issues. See also this blog's Byrne checklist.
